The Government of Maharashtra has approved a 100 acre vegetable tanning based tannery cluster in Dighi Industrial Area, Raigad and invited leather units across India to participate through an Expression of Interest.

The move aims to develop the Kenanie Leather Industrial Park and position the country as a major leather manufacturing hub in Africa.

The initiative focuses on upgrading Kenya’s leather, footwear and leather goods sector with better technology, skills and financial access.

Its recurring operating income reached €6.6 billion, accounting for 41% of total sales, while net profit stood at €4.5 billion.

The move aims to manage rising logistics and raw material costs and ensure stable supply.

The appointment will take effect from April 1, 2026, and marks a shift in board membership as Jon Hopper of VF Corporation steps down after 8 years.

The move legally restricts its name to garments made in the region under defined standards and aims to protect its authenticity and heritage

The International Meat Secretariat, International Council of Skins, Hides & Leather Traders Associations and the International Council of Tanners made this request, citing serious impact on businesses.
