The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has joined hands with Bellegprom to draft a long-term strategy for Belarus’ leather and footwear sector.
Boxmark group, announced plans to invest 13 million marka ($7.8 million or 6.6 million euro) in 2026 to expand its machinery, boost production capacity and add new jobs in its Bosnia plant.
Hyundai through its global open innovation hub Cradle, the company has teamed up with Uncaged Innovations, a leader in biomaterials, to develop leather alternatives made from cereal by-products.
“The grain protein-based leather alternative from Uncaged caught our attention due to its unique molecular structure and configuration and the production process, which allows us to drastically reduce environmental impact while meeting the demanding quality and durability standards typical of Hyundai automotive interiors”
In the backdrop of the harsh tariff winds from the US battering the global footwear and leather market, DIFLEX 2025, the region’s largest B2B trade show is set to open offering a vantage point for manufacturers and brands to diversify and ramp up engagement with the Middle East and Africa (MEA) market.
MICAM, the world’s leading fashion footwear fair, and MIPEL, the international exhibition for leather goods and fashion accessories, welcomed 20,362 visitors with 57% coming from abroad and 43% from Italy.
The United Kingdom is set to welcome its first Micro Tanners Conference in June 2026 at Great Cotmarsh Farm in Wiltshire. The three day event from 15 to 17 June will bring together tanners, artisans and leather enthusiasts to explore the future of small scale vegetable tanning.
This edition will bring together more than 1,450 exhibitors and brands from over 40 countries across 54,400 square meters, with about 30,000 professional visitors expected.

FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY NEWS
Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district is stepping into the spotlight as a major hub for footwear manufacturing with the launch of the Aspire Footwear project by Arvind Limited.
Total sales reached €1.16 billion, up 1.3% from €1.15 billion in the same period last year. Domestic sales grew 5.1% to €924 million.

The underlying reality is hard to ignore: consumers have drawn a line on how much they are willing to pay for leather goods and brands are being forced to rethink positioning around this new price ceiling.
Italian leather goods exports dropped 7.5% in the first five months of 2025, reaching just over €4 billion. Exports make up more than 85% of the industry’s yearly revenue.
