Ramesh Kumar Juneja has assumed charge as the new Chairman of the Council for Leather Exports at the 184th meeting of the Committee of Administration held in Chennai on 06 January 2026.

China has announced a fresh round of import tariff changes for 2026 as it looks to support domestic manufacturing and reduce costs for key industries.

Turkiye’s leather and fur apparel sector delivered a rare bright spot in 2025 even as the wider leather industry struggled with falling exports and rising costs.

Fresh trade data from the French leather industry association Alliance France Cuir show total leather goods exports at €10.31 billion euro from January to October 2025. This compares with €10.71 billion euro during the same period in 2024 marking a decline of 4%.

India’s leather industry representatives met the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Commerce in Chennai on Wednesday 7 January 2026 at ITC Grand Chola and raised a clear alarm over US trade tariffs that are hitting exports hard.

Official data from Export Promotion Bureau shows total export earnings during July to December FY26 fell by 2.19% year on year to $23.99 billion. But when it comes to the Leather and leather products exports it stood out as a rare positive. Overall exports from the sector rose 5.61% to $610 million.

Sanjay Leekha who is the Managing Director of Alpine Apparels Private Limited and former Chairman Council for Leather Exports (CLE) has taken charge as the new Chairman of LSSC after Mukhtarul Amin completed his term as Chairman of LSSC.

Fresh trade data from the French leather industry association Alliance France Cuir show France’s leather gloves sector has reported a small growth in leather gloves exports during the first ten months of 2025.

The Punjab govt has taken a major step to strengthen Jalandhar’s sports goods and leather manufacturing base by signing a MOU aimed at technology upgrade research support and global competitiveness for local manufacturers who already serve international markets.
