French Leather Industry Association Alliance France Cuir has released new trade data of its industry’s performance for January to September 2025 period and the numbers reveal a mixed performance with both gains and declines.
Tandy Leather Factory announced its financial results for the third quarter of 2025, showing a slight decline in revenue and a larger net loss compared to the same period last year.
“Despite experiencing some anticipated disruptions from the move, we were pleased to generate sales that were in line with the prior year & our year-to-date sales remain ahead of 2024”
Millau, a city in the Occitanie region of southern France, is witnessing the court-ordered liquidation of its last remaining tannery, Pechdo, which began operations in the early 1900s and this decision delivers a heavy blow to the local economy and the city’s centuries-old leathermaking heritage.
According to data from SECEX analyzed by CICB Brazilian leather exports reached $98.7 million in October 2025 with 16.4 million square meters in volume. This is a 1.5% increase from September but still 5% lower than the same month last year.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has raised fresh concerns that the rising consumption of hides and skins known locally as ponmo is threatening Nigeria’s leather industry which is valued at about $5 billion.
“From an economic and industrial standpoint cow hides are one of Nigeria’s most valuable raw materials. Our nation possesses a vibrant leather industry with enormous potential for job creation foreign exchange earnings and contributions to GDP.”
Dutch biotech startup Qorium has raised €22 million in new funding to expand its Maastricht facility and advance production of cultivated leather.
