The MM Hashim Memorial Lecture 2025 will celebrate the life and legacy of Late Malack Mohamed Hashim, a pioneering figure in India’s leather and footwear sector.

Mastrotto Indonesia has marked its 20th anniversary with the inauguration of a new production department, strengthening its presence in the leather industry and reaffirming its commitment to growth.

Donald Trump’s 50% tariff on Indian goods officially came into effect on 27 August 2025. The move is already impacting several export sectors including the Indian leather industry.

Italian leather group DANI has entered into a new commercial partnership with Ligo Leather, one of the leading players in the Chinese leather industry.
The Leather Working Group (LWG) has confirmed the election of Malack Abdul Wahab, Managing Director of KH Exports India Pvt. Ltd, as the new Leather Manufacturer Representative on its Board starting October 2025.
Leather Naturally has announced that Dietrich Tegtmeyer will serve a second and final term on its Supervisory Council, a key governing body of the organization.
Australian leather manufacturer Packer Leather has received strong recognition from the Federal Government, reinforcing its role as a sustainable business that has supported jobs for more than a century.

Lagos has unveiled a 150,000 capacity Leather Hub aimed at empowering artisans, promoting locally made leather goods and creating jobs across the value chain. The facility is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s leather industry and reduce reliance on imports.
The recent tariff hike by the United States is threatening the momentum of India’s leather industry, putting thousands of jobs and exports in jeopardy.
“The tariff will hit the sector very hard, US buyers are already demanding discounts of up to 20% which they expect exporters to absorb. That is not viable, US brands have put new orders on hold until the dispute is resolved.”
