The European Commission has officially proposed excluding hides, skins and leather from the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) through a draft delegated act published on May 4, 2026.

The funding will support LHCA’s efforts to diversify export destinations and expand the global market share of U.S. hides, skins and leather.

Al Khaznah Leathers, which operates the UAE’s only leather facility with a fully integrated value chain signed 2 MoU’s during Make It in the Emirates 2026 to strengthen industrial localisation, future manufacturing and Emirati craftsmanship in the UAE.

Japan imported €1.48 billion worth of French leather and leather products in 2025 compared to €406 million in 2019. €1.48 billion included €1.3 billion in leather goods, €18.4 million in leather garments and €139.6 million in footwear.

Bangladesh leather, leather products and leather footwear exports rose 35.6% year-on-year to $109.2 million in April 2026 from $80.5 million in April 2025

Belarus President Alyaksandr Lukashenka signed an official order on May 4, 2026 to remove export customs duties on tanned leather and crust exported outside the Eurasian Economic Union in 2026-2027.

Applications will run from 5 to 25 May 2026 through the company’s online portal.

The new programme is a 6-week professional course delivered in 2-week blocks, combining industry expertise with hands-on learning to prepare professionals for the fast-changing automotive interiors sector.

The industry has approached the commerce and industry ministry requesting duty relief on essential inputs, including footwear components, metal accessories, leather and footwear machinery, threads, moulds, toe puffs, eyelets, certain leather chemicals and packaging materials.
