Indian leather, leather products and footwear exporters are growing anxious as tensions in the Middle East threaten to disturb global trade routes.

The Botswana Meat Commission tannery refurbishment project in Lobatse is now 95% complete with final works expected to wrap up by April 2026 according to local media sources.

“The tannery will play a central role in strengthening Lobatse’s industrial base and supporting downstream opportunities in leather manufacturing.”

The 55th edition of Futurmoda attracted more than 4,100 professional visitors during its 2 day event at IFA‑Fira Alacant, Alicante, Spain reinforcing its role as a key meeting point for the leather and allied industries.

Bangladesh has made a clear move to capture the South Korean leather market with a focused business seminar held in Seoul on 24 February 2026.

Brazil’s leather industry has started 2026 on a weak note. Brazilian leather exports of hides and skins in January 2026 stood at $75.5 million. This is a sharp drop of 22.9% compared to January 2025. It is also 21.5% lower than December 2025 when exports had reached $96.2 million.

The discussion focused on strengthening research and technical support for the growth of the Eastern leather sector.

Data from the first eleven months of 2025 shows that most parts of the Spanish leather trade have slowed down sharply. The only bright spot has been semi processed leather. Everything else is moving in the opposite direction.

Industry representatives raised the proposal during a meeting with Commerce Minister where several issues affecting the sector were discussed.
