APLF 2026, one of the world’s major leather and fashion materials trade fairs, concluded on March 14 at the Hong Kong after 3 days of business meetings, conferences & networking among global industry participants.

Japan’s leather industry association (JLIA) has introduced 2 certification programs at APLF 2026 to help brands and suppliers across the world make responsible sourcing decisions with greater confidence and transparency.

“These certifications translate sustainability policy into day-to-day sourcing decisions for leather sourcing — company systems and material safety verified independently — so brands can make sourcing decisions with greater clarity and confidence.”

13 Italian tanneries under the Leather Leaders project drew a full house at APLF 2026 where they showcased a new science backed and collaborative approach to improve transparency and sustainability in the leather industry and also how structured innovation and better data can reshape supply chains.

World Leather Day 2026 will be celebrated on 29 April 2026, bringing together global leather industry stakeholders to promote the value of leather says Leather Naturally. This year’s central message, “Make It Leather,” (#MakeItLeather) pushes for action instead of just awareness.

Gucci, part of the Kering group, is focusing on the leather industry through this new lab in San Miniato, Tuscany. The centre works on both improving traditional leather processes and developing alternative materials.

Vikas Mahtani has been re-elected as the Regional Chairman for the West zone of the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) following the successful conclusion of its 2026 – 2028 elections.

Yadavendra Singh Sachan has been elected as the Regional Chairman of the Central Regional Committee of the Council for Leather Exports (CLE) in Kanpur.
