LEATHER INDUSTRY NEWS
A German court has ruled that synthetic materials can no longer be labeled as “leather” if they contain no animal hide/skin, a major win against greenwashing and for honest labeling, following a case involving products marketed as “apple leather.”
Bangladesh sets a $65 Billion export target for FY2024-25, aiming for 17.22% growth. Key sectors include RMG, leather, jute, and home textiles. The leather sector alone targets $1.25 Billion.
Brazil’s leather exports fell to $83.4 Million in June 2025, down 13.7% from May and 17.9% year-on-year. China remains the top buyer, while South Korea and Spain saw strong growth. Finished leather led in value; salted hides showed surprising mid-year gains.
Renault will phase out leather in all vehicles by end of 2025, shifting to recycled, animal-free materials.

FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY NEWS
India is emerging as a key destination for non-leather footwear manufacturing, attracting interest from Taiwan and Vietnam. With government support and improved import ease, exports could hit $7B in 2025–26, driven by growing US, UK, and EU demand.

Brazil’s footwear exports rose 8.8% in volume and 3% in revenue in H1 2025, driven by strong demand from the U.S. and Colombia. June saw a major boost, with U.S. imports jumping 39.4% in volume as buyers shift away from Asian-made shoes.
