Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) launched 2 specialty chemicals aimed at making upholstery leather safer and more durable in a workshop at the CLE auditorium in Unnao on Tuesday August 12, 2025.

The Supreme Court on Monday August 11, 2025 voiced deep concern about untreated sewage and industrial effluents from tanneries flowing into the Palar river in Tamil Nadu’s Vellore district and Questioned CETP Performance & Stressed on 2 Priorities.

The Thai Tanning Industry Association has welcomed the government’s approval of water monitor farming for commercial purposes, a move that could push leather exports beyond 20 billion baht ($620 million).

Brazil’s leather export performance in July 2025 showed a slight recovery compared to June but remained weaker than last year’s results.

Tandy Leather Factory reported second quarter 2025 sales of $17.8 million, an increase from $17.3 million in the same period last year. Gross profit rose to $10.6 million from $10 million a year earlier.

Applications are now open for the 2026 Young Leather Scientist Grant by the International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists Societies (IULTCS). The program aims to encourage innovative research that will help make the leather industry more sustainable and efficient.

CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) and the Leather Sector Skill Development Council (LSSC) have taken a major step to strengthen the future of the leather industry by signing an MoU on 12 August 2025 in Kanpur Leather Cluster.

Kenya’s Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry has announced a major breakthrough for the country’s leather sector after a lease agreement was signed to operationalize the long-awaited Kenanie Leather Industrial Park in Machakos County.

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has finally put an end to a legal fight that dragged on for more than 26 years. The court directed the Punjab government to give former employees of the Punjab State Leather Development Corporation the same benefits as those granted under its April 20, 1992 policy for surplus staff.

Uttar Pradesh has approved its new Leather, footwear and non-Leather footwear area development policy 2025. The policy offers attractive subsidies to entrepreneurs looking to set up manufacturing units.

Brazil’s footwear exports took a hit in July 2025, with both volume and revenue showing declines compared to the same month last year.
