LEATHER INDUSTRY NEWS
Brazil’s leather exports fell 21.2% YoY in April 2025 to $93.8M. Volumes dropped nearly 20%. China remains top buyer, though its import value dipped 5.8%. Italy and Norway were the only bright spots with growth in both value and area.
Tandy Leather posted $19 Million in Q1 revenue, down from $19.3 Million last year. Net income fell to $0.3 Million, but cash reserves doubled to $23.6 Million after HQ sale. Inventory dropped, but rising costs and tariffs remain a concern.
Rino Mastrotto’s new leather, HEARTH, cuts water use by 91% and chemicals by 23%—without compromising on luxury. Backed by ISO-certified studies, it slashes carbon emissions and sets a new sustainability benchmark.
Bekir Burak Uyguner has been re-elected as President of the Turkish Leather Industrialists’ Association for a third term. He also leads ICT globally and runs the historic Uyguner Deri Group.

Rwanda is investing $5.89 Million in Bugesera Tannery Park to power leather growth and attract private players. An effluent plant worth $1.18M is underway, and the park could generate $430 Million/year once operational.
FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY NEWS
Dr. TRB Rajaa visited Hong Fu’s Vietnam factory and urged the company to fast-track building their new unit in Tamil Nadu. With all approvals done, construction will start soon, promising more jobs and growth for the state’s footwear sector.
Urged them to speed up work to establish their unit in TN. They have confirmed that they have received all clearances and that the construction of their facility will commence very soon
Adidas has officially stopped using kangaroo leather in shoes, following pressure from animal rights groups like the Center for a Humane Economy. CEO Bjørn Gulden announced this at their annual meeting. Major brands have now exited this trade.
In Q1 2025, Portugal exported 20 Million shoe pairs, earning €453 Million up 5.4% in value. EU remained top buyer, with strong growth in Germany (+18.8%) & Spain (+31%). The U.S. market dipped 12.7% amid tariffs but remains a key focus.
