LEATHER INDUSTRY NEWS

With a 90-day US tariff pause, Indian leather and textile exporters are rushing to ship pending orders. India exported $870M in leather goods to the US this year and now has a chance to grow its share as rivals face up to 46% tariffs.

Brazil exported $103.1 Million in leather in March up 5.4% from Feb but 5.8% below last year. Volume rose 1.5% in area and 16.2% in weight YoY. Exports to China led, but prices dropped across top products like finished leather.

Florence-based Gruppo Vecchia Toscana has acquired Manifattura Toscana Pellami, a heavy bovine leather expert. The April 15 deal boosts their control, product range & entry into the premium belt market while keeping the brand and team intact.

Bentley now uses AI to spot tiny flaws in leather hides, improving quality and cutting 135.7 kg CO₂ per car. It helps craftspeople work faster while reducing waste part of their Beyond100+ sustainability plan.

FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY NEWS

From July '24 to March '25, Bangladesh earned $852M from leather exports a 9.89% jump. Leather footwear led the way with $496M (+25.24%). But leather goods and finished leather dipped. Non-leather footwear also increased by 34.15%.

LEATHER GOODS INDUSTRY NEWS

LVMH posted €20.3 Billion in Q1 2025. Fashion & leather goods led with €10.1 Billion, despite a 5% dip. Dior, Vuitton & Fendi stayed strong with iconic launches & global shows. US & Japan slowed, but Europe remained solid.

Hermès posted €4.1 Billion revenue in Q1, up 9% YoY, led by Japan (+17%) & Europe (+13%). Leather goods drove most growth (+10%) with new hits like Médor. €500 Million will be shared with employees as the brand stays focused on quality, craft & climate goals.

A new leather goods training studio has opened at GIID Tambaram to empower intellectually disabled students. Backed by ₹10.5 Lakh funding, 30 students are learning to craft wallets, keychains & more paving the way to self-employment.
