The project aims to revive leather manufacturing, increase value addition, create up to 120,000 jobs and unlock the sector's estimated KSh120 billion (~$928 million) potential.
The country’s leather and footwear exports are projected to rise from $110 million to $150 million.
Almaty region recorded the highest production during the first five months of 2026, with output worth T2.4 billion (~$5.01 million). The region accounted for 35% of the total production value of Kazakhstan’s leather industry.
CLCTA urged West Bengal Minister of State for MSME Ashok Dinda to address long-standing infrastructure issues, saying poor roads, water supply problems and treatment plant issues have affected production, exports and buyer confidence over the past two years.
The event will bring together leather scientists, technologists, researchers, manufacturers, brands, chemical suppliers, machinery experts and sustainability leaders from around the world.
Under the approach, professional buyers in target markets are identified in advance. Buyer lists prepared with the support of local business partners and promotional agencies are reviewed by industry representatives before being matched with suitable Turkish companies.
The workshop highlighted the project’s achievements in promoting cleaner and more sustainable leather manufacturing across Africa.
The meeting focused on strategies to strengthen the industry and position Uttar Pradesh as a global hub for leather and footwear manufacturing and exports.
The Leathertrace Bangladesh Project officially concluded with a closeout event held at Mulberry headquarters in London, marking the completion of 2 years of work to address environmental and social challenges in Bangladesh’s leather industry.
