The latest figures show that the sector exported $5.10 million worth of leather garments in April 2026 alone, after exports reached $33.50 million during the first quarter of the year.
The European Commission has adopted a Delegated Act that will remove cattle hides, skins and leather from the scope of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), marking another major milestone for the European leather industry after years of advocacy.
Italian leather manufacturer Conceria Pasubio S.p.A. has raised €400 million through a 9.5% Senior Secured Notes offering due in 2032 as part of a refinancing plan aimed at improving its financial flexibility and supporting future business operations.
In this edition of the LN Executive Interview Series, Leathernews.org spoke with Giulio Mandruzzato, Chief Executive Officer of Gemata Group, about the company’s transformation, innovation, AI, automation, sustainability and the future of leather finishing.
The report showed that the industry’s total turnover declined 2.7% during the January-March period. Exports, which account for around 90% of the sector’s total turnover, fell 1.6% in value and 3.6% in volume compared with the same period last year.
The minister said 77% of India's leather exports currently go to just 15 countries and stressed that the industry should now expand its presence across more global markets.
The €18 million investment will support the company’s expansion in the leather sector and is expected to create around 20 new jobs.
During the period, Vietnam also overtook China to become the largest footwear supplier to the US market for the first time according to multiple local media reports.
The Council for Leather Exports (CLE) on 15 July 2026 joined the Department of Commerce, Government of India, in celebrating the India–UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) Flagging-off Ceremony held at Vanijya Bhawan in New Delhi, marking the start of duty-free exports trade agreement.
